On
March 31, 1998,
Kentucky
law changed to
mandate the use of
lethal injection for
executions.
Electrocution can
still be used as a
means of execution,
however, if chosen
by those condemned
inmates who were
sentenced prior to
the change in the
law, thus the need
to keep the electric
chair at the
Penitentiary. Death
by electrocution is
a two minute cycle
involving the
administration of
2,400 volts for 15
seconds and then 240
volts for 105
seconds.
